Short Synopsis

FINDING HER VOICE is a full-length, two act musical written by GBMTC’s President & Founder Lori-Ann Clancy. It is a story based on her mother’s unpublished autobiography entitled “My Life’s Journey”. This musical turns a lens to abuse, family hood in its many shapes and sizes, betrayal and dementia. Her mother was an incredibly strong woman who dealt with many adversities in life by leading a courageous and inspiring life.  

What Is a Workshop Production?

This workshop production will be staged with limited blocking and limited use of set pieces, props, costumes and lighting. For some scenes, the actors will be on stage with a script and vocal score in hand or on stands and they will be accompanied by a pianist, guitarist and fiddler. The purpose of this workshop production is to provide a preview to gauge audience and critical reaction, following which, parts of the script & score may be adjusted and/or rewritten before the official fully staged premiere!

Lori-Ann Clancy

Librettist/Composer/ Director/Producer

Lori-Ann is the Founder, President and Artistic Director of Georgian Bay Musical Theatre Company (GBMTC). She has performed in numerous musicals and musical reviews, and has directed and/or produced more than 20 musical theatre productions. She recently retired from her much loved 27 year vocation as a secondary school educator. Her passion for musical theatre was sparked at a very young age by her mom Norma, who was her biggest fan and supporter. In Norma’s lifetime, she never missed a show that Lori-Ann performed in, wrote, directed and/or produced. Norma passed in 2022 and Finding Her Voice is Lori-Ann’s homage to her mom’s ‘life’s journey’. Lori-Ann  lives in Midland with her partner in and for life…her wonderful husband, Rob. She would like to thank every single person involved in this production for working so hard to bring her mom’s story to life.

Justin Lapierre

Composer & Violinist

Justin Lapierre has studied composition with notable Canadian composers such as Joanne Bender, Glenn Buhr, Linda Catlin-Smith, Cameron McKittrick, Iman Habibi, and Christos Hatzis. He has also studied piano with Amber Morphy, and both piano and harpsichord with Leslie De’Ath. Justin holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Music degree in Composition from the University of Toronto. ​

Justin’s works have also been performed by the Canadian Chamber Choir, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, the DaCapo Chamber Choir, and the Menno Singers, among others. Justin is honoured to have been selected by CBC Music for their 2025 edition of ’30 under 30′ Canadian classical musicians.

Ian Cusson

Composer

Ian Cusson is a composer of art song, opera and orchestral work. He studied with Jake Heggie, Samuel Dolin, James Anagnoson. Ian was an inaugural Carrefour Composer-in-Residence with the National Arts Centre Orchestra for 2017-2019 and was Composer-in-Residence for the Canadian Opera Company for 2019-2021. He was a Co-Artistic Director of Opera in the 21st Century for 2020/2021 at the Banff Centre. He is the recipient of the 2021 Jan V. Matejcek Classical Music Award from SOCAN and the 2021 Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Prize. He lives in Collingwood with his wife and four children.

Emma Reynolds

Composer

Emma is a triple threat artist, singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist. She has just concluded her BFA at Sheridan College for the Musical Theatre Program. Emma released a new single called ‘Nice Guy’ and is working on releasing more music soon! Emma adores collaboration and believes that every creative space should be led with kindness and acceptance. Betony Main

Dramaturg

Hailing from Midland, Betony is a theatre educator, director, new play dramaturg and all-round drama lady. By day, Betony is the Drama Teacher at Georgian Bay District Secondary School. By night, she has dramaturged and directed plays and sketch revues for the Huronia Players, the Simcoe County Theatre Festival, Toronto Sketchfest, and Fringe festivals in Toronto, Ottawa, London, and North Bay.  Off-stage, Betony writes grants, and is the former Board Chair of Talk Is Free Theatre. Outside of theatre, Betony’s favourite things include cats, naps, and donuts.

Laura is a Métis actor, singer, songwriter and filmmaker proudly from Midland, Ontario! Her film and television acting credits include Ben-Hur (2016; Paramount), The Expanse (Space/SYFY), Fugue (Amazon Prime Video), Motherly (Shudder), The Price of Fitting In (Crave) and many more. On stage, she toured North America as Annie/Shelly in Evil Dead the Musical (Starvox), originated the role of Lori in Jukebox Hero (Mirvish), played Vivienne in Legally Blonde (Stage West) and just originated the role of Megan in Norm Foster’s brand new play A Woman’s Love List (Upper Canada Playhouse, Orillia Opera House & Gravenhurst Opera House). Bringing life to ‘Norah’ in Finding Her Voice is such an honor for Laura. She sends all of her love to Mama and Dad, Clance and Sweet Andrew.

Grace is from Tottenham, ON. Her previous opera and musical credits include: The Handmaid’s Tale – Widow (Banff Centre, 2025), Così fan tutte – Dorabella (UofT Opera 2025), Castaway – Queen Arete (UofT Opera, 2024), Into the Woods – the Witch (Opera Laurier, 2024), Little Women – Meg March (Opera Laurier, 2023), and La Traviata – Flora (Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, 2022). Holly Archer

Holly Archer was born on the shores of Georgian Bay and can’t seem to stay away. Known locally for both her artwork and her time on stage—often alongside her talented husband—Holly has appeared in, RENT (Mimi), Rock of Ages (Sherrie), Les Misérables (Cosette), You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Sally Brown), and Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins). She is currently performing with Huronia Players as Charlene in You’ll Get Used to It… The War Show. Ashleigh feels very blessed to be a part of Finding Her Voice. This project and production have been healing as she recently lost her mother Sherry-Jane ( love ya Shaney Jane). Ben Robitaille*

Ben Robitaille is a Canadian actor with credits in both film and television, including SurrealEstate (CTV Sci-Fi, 2025), Last Ones There (Prime Video, 2021), and Carter (CTV, 2018). On stage, Ben has appeared in GBMTC’s The Prom (2024), HP’s Stag and Doe (2023) and Footloose with the Oakville Players (2020), and Mamma Mia! with Brampton Musical Theatre (2019). When he’s not performing, Ben can usually be found chasing his toddler, his golden retriever, or an ultra-marathon finish line — sometimes all in the same weekend.

Angelo Ingriselli

Angelo was born in Tiny Ontario. His acting began in high school plays & musicals with Ms. Clancy/Clance (1997-2002) then later in life, with GBMTC’s Rent (2013). He also performed in HP’s  It’s a Wonderful Life The Radio Play, (2015) Thank you to my parents for introducing me to Bruce Springsteen, and ultimately my love of the guitar at a very early age. My Nonna for singing with me in her basement in Sudbury. My Nonno for guitar skills. My wife Erica and our son Leo for giving me the opportunity to share my love of the Arts.

Beverly’s most cherished high school memory is performing as Maria in West Side Story under Clancy’s direction. After graduating from university, she continued to perform in professional and semi-professional musical theatre productions and as a guest soprano in numerous concerts and recordings.  For over a decade, Beverly has proudly starred as the vocalist for Windjammers, Canada’s Premier Pops Wind Ensemble.

David Cardinal

David is thrilled to be back working with his high school friend Lori-Ann. His previous credits include; Sweeney Todd – Sweeney Todd, Tevye – Fiddler On The Roof, The Baker – Into The Woods, Count Carl-Magnus – A Little Night Music, Pseudolus – A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Max Bialystock – The Producers, and Lenny – Of Mice and Men. David will also be playing Shrek in Shrek the Musical in November/December of this year.

Joan  lives in Aurora with her husband, three grown kids and her dog, Otto. A retired elementary school teacher, ‘Miss Joanie’ keeps busy by teaching music to little people in daycares, kindergartens, galleries and libraries where she also does readings of her children’s book ‘Ellie Sleeps In’. After several years hiatus from performing on a big stage (too many years to mention lol), she is thrilled to be part of an adult production again! Peter was born in Oshawa, ON in 1965; the fourth of five children for Ray and Norma Clancy. His previous non-professional acting credits include The Pajama Game (1981), The Wizard of Oz (1982) and Fiddler on the Roof (1983). David Condren

David is thrilled to be returning to the stage in Finding Her Voice, a heartfelt new work by his high school drama teacher and longtime mentor, Lori-Ann Clancy. As a student at STCHS,, David appeared in Grease, The Pajama Game, and Footloose—all under Lori-Ann’s direction—experiences that sparked a lifelong passion for performance. He went on to study drama at Queen’s University, where he performed in numerous productions, including Gypsy (QMT); The Laramie Project, Glengarry Glen Ross, and This is Our Youth (Staged & Confused); Songs Of Love & Medicine and Three Sisters (Queen’s Drama). After graduating, David made his professional debut in Elizabeth Rex in Prince Edward County, directed by Paul Walker. Nearly two decades later, he’s honoured to be stepping back into the world of theatre with a project that brings his journey full circle. He would like to thank his family for their love, guidance and unwavering support.

Michelle Flynn

Michelle is a retired high school music teacher and band director from Oshawa, ON. Michelle is in demand as an accompanist and director, however, she currently enjoys resting her conducting baton and picking up the alto sax, performing with local swing/jazz/blues bands. Michelle would like to thank her piano and organ teacher, Simone Lesley, for a lifetime of mentorship and support.

Other theatre credits: Maddie has had the privilege of collaborating with many wonderful companies, including Theatre By the Bay, Bad New Days, WritersFest, Scapegoat Carnivale, Theatre Sheridan, and the Kick & Push Festival. Stephanie is excited to be involved in bringing this beautiful and heartfelt story to the stage. It is a true passion project and a reflection of the lasting bonds between parents and children. Stephanie loves everything musical theatre – especially Hamilton! She is proud to learn from and be inspired by Clancy and this talented group.

Paula Desjardins

Stage Manager

Paula’s previous GBMTC credits include: RENT (2013), Legally Blonde (2015), Midland Bay Streaming (2023) & The Prom (2024). Other theatre credits include HP’s I’ll Be Back Before Midnight (2014) to The Old Man and the Old Moon (2023) with so many in between, she was also a member of the HP Board for over 10 years. Lily was raised in Midland, ON. Lily was a Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager during her time as a student at St. Theresa’s Catholic High School, and has been a part of the stage crew for a few of GBMTC’s musicals. Lily is excited for the opportunity to be back behind the scenes of a show!

Janine was born in Peterborough, ON. My experience with GBMTC has been to support with actor costumes. Creator of costume for Mama Mia – (2019), and years of sewing costumes for many productions produced by Lori-Ann Clancy at St. Theresa’s Catholic High School.

Rebecca is a teacher at St. Theresa’s Catholic High School in Midland, ON. She has worked with LoriAnn Clancy on many productions since 1999.

Colin Baker

Sound Design & Operation

Colin has acted as the Sound Designer & Operator for ever GBMTC production to date, and has recently joined the Board of Directors prior to their most recent summer production. He is excited to support the development of a personal and inspiring piece of new theatre in Finding Her Voice, and is grateful for the opportunity to play a small part in bringing it to life.

Christoph Boker is one of GBMTC’s founding board members and he has  been involved in the creative and administrative aspects of every production. With a passion for theatre, he specializes in lighting design, set construction, and all things tech.

Nate Lacroix

Nate is a filmmaker and multimedia artist from Midland who takes great joy in capturing the spirit of each production through photography, posters, slideshows, and videos. With over 25 years of experience behind the camera, Nate loves helping stories come to life — both on stage and on screen. He lives in Midland with his wife Erika and their two sons, Tyler and Hayden, who continue to inspire his creativity (and occasionally star in his test footage).

Grace Cowden

Ticket Sales & House Manager

Grace was born in Midland, ON. She’s been involved with Clance’s musicals since she was able to! Her previous credits include performances with GBMTC and Toronto Metropolitan Musical Theatre Company and she was in a featured film at TIFF in 2019. She’s very passionate about theatre and is so excited to be helping on this project!
